Q:
Where
did this idea come from?
A: Old Dog founder Bob Stevens got tired of replacing his guitar
stands. Every time he threw one on top of the metal graveyard in his
basement, he thought about a design that would be free of the parts that
always broke on his stands. Finally out of frustration, he decided to
make a stand for himself. During the process, it occurred to him that
other working musicians might like to have one as well. His design idea
was simple - no hinges, no screws, no telescoping pieces – NO MOVING
PARTS - something that wouldn't bend or break. He knew from firsthand
experience that during set-ups and tear-downs, a musician needs
something rugged. His idea was to do what electrical instrument
manufacturers have been doing for years - apply the latest technologies
in materials to produce a superior product.
Q: What is Polycarbonate resin?
A: Polycarbonate is a tough engineering thermoplastic, which
offers very high impact strength and a high modulus of elasticity. It is
unrivaled in its ability to stand up to hard knocks in very cold and
very hot temperatures. Products made with polycarbonate resin are
extraordinarily durable. “PC” solves the limitations of many traditional
materials used for musical instrument stands with its unmatched
combination of high performance features such as strength, durability,
appearance and optical purity. Hockey masks, NASCAR windshields and
NASA’s Space Shuttle, to name a few, include parts made with
polycarbonate.
Q:
What is
Thermoplastic Elastomers?
A: Thermoplastic
elastomers are an high-performance elasticized material that combine the
desirable characteristics of vulcanized rubber, such as flexibility,
with the processing ease of the thermoplastics. Old Dog has determined
that for our design, this high-tech material is the best application
available to protect the guitar’s finish.
Q:
Will the Road
Warrior™ hold my acoustic guitar?
A:
No. The
Road Warrior™ is designed for the electric guitar. It was originally
created for the traveling musician who needs a durable stand that can
take the punishment of road work.
Q:
What makes Old Dog
stands so durable?
A: Old Dog
stands are made with polycarbonate, a tough, engineering thermoplastic
which offers very high impact strength. Few other engineering plastics
can match its ability to stand up to hard knocks in very cold or very
hot temperatures. Products made from polycarbonate resin are usually
shatter-resistant and virtually unbreakable. Products such as hockey
masks, NASCAR windshields, riot shields, and NASA' s Space Shuttle (to
name a few) include parts made from polycarbonate resin.
Q:
Are Old Dog stands
totally unbreakable?
A: No. Our
research has determined that given excessive, abnormal treatment, the
polycarbonate material will break. However, we fully expect that they
will stand up to the normal treatment (and mistreatment) that is to be
expected from the working musician. Polycarbonate resin will tolerate
significantly more punishment than the traditional materials from which
most guitar stands are made. We would like our customers to let us know
if their Old Dog stands survive any unusually rough treatment.
Q:
Will Old Dog
stands hurt the finish on my guitar?
A: No. An
over-mold of thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) on the neck and the cradle
cushion and protect the guitar each place it touches the stand. The
strap holding the neck of the guitar in place is also made of
thermoplastic elastomer . TPE is extraordinarily durable and is safe for
all finishes including nitrocellulose. Its non-slip surface provides the
ideal cushion and protection for your instrument. |
